Dr. Terriquez is a board-certified internal medicine and infectious disease physician with a focus on complex infections and public health. He focuses on treating complicated illnesses caused by bacteria, viruses and other germs, as well as protecting public health. His work includes diseases that can spread from animals to people, lung infections like pneumonia, conditions linked to the body’s natural bacteria, and new or emerging diseases. He also has a lot of experience in preventing infections, keeping hospitals safe from outbreaks and preparing for potential biological threats.
Professional Achievements:
Dr. Terriquez earned his medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and completed his internal medicine residency and infectious disease fellowship at the University of Arizona. He has completed advanced training in infectious diseases, with extra focus on caring for people with weakened immune systems, such as those who have had organ transplants, as well as treating infections caused by mycobacteria, a group of bacteria that causes serious diseases like tuberculosis and leprosy. He serves in multiple leadership roles, including Division Medical Director for Public Health Preparedness with the Arizona Department of Health Services and Medical Director of Infectious Disease, Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology at Northern Arizona Healthcare. Dr. Terriquez is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (FIDSA) and holds certifications in infection control (CIC) and advanced leadership in infection prevention (AL-CIP). He has collaborated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on developing national guidelines for disease control.
